I trained at Camberwell School of Art where I specialised in Fine Art. This enabled me to find my own direction within a pathway that brought me into contact with staff that challenged my independence, creativity and drive. These included Robert Medley,Euan Uglow, Patrick Proctor, Ron Kitaj, Frank Bowling, David Hepher, Phillip Matthews, Kenneth Martin and Frank Auerbach
I later studied at Goldsmiths College where I continued to develop painting and ceramics.
I work in a variety of styles that emerge from the original source of inspiration which include landscapes of Kent and more recently France.
The ever changing light, mood and power of the landscapes of South West France (the department of the Gers) never cease to drive my desire to paint. The colour and textural richness play a major role in the development of my particular expressive outcomes.
Painting and drawing on location forms foundations for more experimental work in the studio, where more abstract paintings evolve that still retain the wider spiritual links with landscape.
I am also currently working on a series of paintings inspired by the people and life of Jegun (a vibrant village in the Gers ) and the magnet it has become for visiting musicians.
From the first mark/ spread of colour on the canvas an adventure begins, the time to stop finds itself.
Painting illuminates my life, I feed on the wonderful landscape, the culture and the Gascon spirit that exists in the people.
Recent travels to Dubai and Oman have inspired new directions in my paintings; an open door to explore beyond in terms of rich, vibrant and stimulating experiences. |
